The legacy of a poet - Kazi Nazrul Islam, the prophet of tolerance

Image
Kazi Nazrul Islam's works have been acclaimed as well as criticized for egoism, but his admirers who supported him throughout his life, considered this as self-confidence more than ego. They said that he had the ability to defy God and yet be devoted. Was a Bengali poet, writer, musician, revolutionary and philosopher who is best known for pioneering works in Bengali expressing fierce rebellion against society, tradition, politics, injustice, intolerance and oppression. Popularly known as the Bidrohi Kobi – Rebel Poet – he is widely popular and revered in India and commemorated as the "national poet" of Bangladesh. Nazrul lacked any formal training as a journalist or artist, and appears to have built  his artistic experience through his participation in folk musical troupes in his youth.  After two years of high school, Nazrul joined the army of the British colonial government. Stationed in Karachi during World War One, as part of the Bengal regiment,  he ros

The vote of thought (Part 3) - We were not about told these before the 'change'!

Image
Its a week, that a political change took place in West Bengal! From today we will have our new chief minister and her cabinet too! We all (most of us) are hoping for a brighter and better tomorrow! We will see that later and hope someday i will write about the goods and bads about this ministry! But for now i will like to highlight on things that are happening against what we were told by the oppositions before the elections i.e. 'badla nay badol chai'  or 'we don't want revenge, we want change'! Within a week, several CPI(M) people have been beaten up and many others are death struck with fright! So many families cannot return to their houses! This was not what we were told! What i felt really bad seeing today's newspaper, is that a very elderly CPI(M) leader of  Ghatal, Seikh Israel has been beaten up badly by TMC(Trinamool Congress) supporters! Israel is very old and is a cancer patient, he even has heart disease and beating up such a person is what comes u

The Legacy of a Woman - Mother Teresa

Image
How should we understand this woman and her views of the world and beyond? by any measure, Mother Teresa has fascinated the world by being a complete and utter contrarian. No modern day view of the church and its mission for her; rather, a strong, simplistic approach to charity and to religious works. Her heroism is based on the belief of the dignity of the individual, no matter how poor, how sick or how low on the social pecking order he or she maybe. While not everyone can and will agree with the particulars of her activities and programmes, she remains far and away the most admired individual of the late 20th century. Her life, teachings and good works represent a call to all of us to come to the aid of those neglected by the world or simply ignored or forgotten. She is and will remain a hero with unparalleled personal and spiritual appeal.

Watched two movies recently - 'Kagojer Bou' and 'Luv ka the end'

Image
'Kagojer Bou' or 'The paper wife' is a non-commercial film by Bappaditya Banerjee! Starring rahul, Paoli, Priyanka, Raimjhim Gupta, Jayanto in significant roles! its a genre which i love to watch! Revolves around money, marriage and extra marital affair! Rahul's acting is bold enough! So is Paoli and Rimjhim! Priyanka's role could have been better carried out by someone else! The plot is simple but towards the end give a big twist and their lies the significance of the title! Music is nice, especially the folk number! The story takes an abrupt turn towards the end which is not very likely! It shows how lust and need of money make people do so many things without even thinking of the result! A nice watch for audience loving ' hatke' films! 'Luv ka the end' is a purely commercial film! However not of the usual bollywood type film! Directed by Bumpy and starring Shraddha Kapoor, Pushtiie S., Taaha Shah and many others! Its a short film, which is n

'On the Seashore' by Rabindranath Tagore

Image
On the seashore of endless worlds children meet.               The infinite sky is motionless overhead and the restless water is boisterous. On the seashore of endless worlds the children meet with shouts and dances.               They build their houses with sand, and they play with empty shells. With withered leaves they weave their boats and smilingly float them on the vast deep. Children have their play on the seashore of worlds.               They know not how to swim, they know not how to cast nets. Pearl-fishers dive for pearls, merchants sail in their ships, while children gather pebbles and scatter them again. They seek not for hidden treasures, they know not how to cast nets.               The sea surges up with laughter, and pale gleams the smile of the sea-beach. Death-dealing waves sing meaningless ballads to the children, even like a mother while rocking her baby's cradle. The sea plays with children, and pale gleams the smile of the sea-beach.

The vote of thought (Part 2) - The two Senapatis!

Image
At the end of this season of election, many people caught our sight and got lots of publicity for their good or bad deeds! But, two personalities were always in the limelight, mostly for their good aura! However, both belong to opposite parties - the ruling CPI(M) and the opponent TMC! They are none other than the two leaders, who are leading their soldiers with loads of skill, the senapatis -  Buddhabeb Bhattacharjee and Mamata Banerjee! I am not here to promote any political party, but i could not resist myself from speaking about these two personalities, who are taking this election by storm!                                                                               Actually many things are common between both of them, both are honest politicians, which is very rare nowadays! Both work for the well being of their people! Both try to carry a nice smile with their hands joined most of the time, not bothering others about any turmoil going on inside their head! They are always

'Human' by Kazi Nazrul Islam

Image
Let's sing the song of equality Nothing is greater than human, nor important. No difference in country-time-person, same for all religion, In countries, times, and houses they are relatives. Devotee, open the door, God of hunger is standing at the door, time for devotion. Seeing the dream, eager devotee opened a temple, Surely he will be a king today by the blessing of God. In tattered clothes, lean and thin body, voice is low for hunger Said the traveler, "Sir, open the door, I am starving for seven days." Door of the temple was closed at once, the hungry returns back, Dark night, only lights of hunger are all around the way. The hungry chants "O God, that temple is of devotee, not your." Yesterday was feast in the mosque, a lot of bread and meat Are left, the priest is very happy for that. At this moment a traveler came wearing tattered clothes, Said, "Sir, I am starving for seven days" The priest shouted with annoyance, "Wh
