'Shanghai' is a Masterpiece, 'Ferrari ki Sawaari' is nice and enjoyable

This month we had three back to back 'good film' released, namely 'Shanghai', 'Ferrari ki Sawaari' and 'Gangs of Wasseypur'. However i have not watched the last one yet. Will soon watch it. but i watched the other two and both were impressive. While 'Shanghai' was a really path-breaking film, 'Ferrari ki Sawaari' is a commercial film with a different touch.

First, coming to the 8th June release 'Shanghai' and in one word its a masterpiece. Its a Benchmark film and Bollywood has not seen such a film in years. Directed by the immensely talented Dibakar Banerjee who had previously proved his worth with films like 'Khosla Ka Ghosla', 'Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!' and 'Love Sex Aur Dhoka'. The film has a wonderful caste, consisting of Abhay Deol, Emraan Hashmi, Kalki Koechlin and Prosenjit Chatterjee in the leads. The film also has Farooq Sheikh, Pitobash Tripathy and Supriya Pathak in important roles among others. This is a Political thriller which is rare in Bollywood and the ones that are made are not worth it. The story goes like a real estate company is taking land to build Apartments in Bharatnagar and Professor Ahmedi (Prosenjit) flew to India to protest against this. Shalini (Kalki) is his student. However, Dr. Ahmedi gets killed in an accident but Shalini thinks it was a planned murder. Joginder (Emraan) is a videographer and Shalini takes his help to prove the fact of murder. T.A. Krishnan (Abhay) is a bureaucrat hired by the Government investigation and it is he who brings out the facts and the hidden dream of Chief Minister (Supriya) to build a Shanghai in Bharatnagar.

The actors give their best. Emraan and Abhay will surely fight for the Best Actor awards next year. Kalki is absolutely fine and she is amazing audience more and more by her skills. It was nice to see Prosenjit, the Emperor of Bangla Films acting in Hindi Film after a long gap. The music Vishal-Shekhar is commendable and goes well with the film. This is a must watch if you want to see some real good cinema.

This is yet another film with a heart from Vidhu Vinod Chopra's banner. 'Ferrari ki Sawaari' released on 15th June and is directed by debutante director Rajesh Mapuskar. The dialogues are by the 'Munnabhai' and '3 Idiots' director Rajkumar Hirani and it shows because they are witty and some are really hilarious. This film has Sharman Joshi, Boman Irani and Ritvik Sahore in the leads. Paresh Rawal and Satyadeep Mishra are also seen in important roles. The story is simple and enjoyable. Kayo (Ritvik) stays with his father Rustam (Sharman) and has lost his mother. Kayo's grandfather Behram (Boman) also stays with them. Kayo dreams of becoming a cricketer and also plays very well but their financial condition is not so good. And in the mean time an offer comes that a cricket camp from London will take good under 14 cricketers to train them and make them play in Lord's Stadium. However the camp needs 1.5 Lakh Rupees as fees. Rustam wants his boy to go and steals a Sacchin Ferrari to give it on hire and earn the money. In the mean time it is also revealed that Behram was also once a fine cricketer but his friend (Paresh) fooled him and he had to leave playing. he feared the same will happen to his grandchild. But, later he also starts seeing his dream getting fulfilled through Kayo. In the meantime many incidents take place and makes the film a nice watch.

Boman Irani has once again showed that he is a treasure. Boman does an immensely wonderful job as Kayo's grandffather and in parts even makes you remember his role in 3 Idiots. Sharman is too good as a father who is worried about his son and looks after his requirements even if money comes as an obstacle. Vidya Balan adds a Marathi essence to the film with the dance number, she looked wonderful as always. The music by Pritam is good however could have been better but the essence of the film is felt in the songs too.
