Hats Off Karan Johar - Rani Mukerji - Saqib Salim - Anurag Kashyap for this masterpiece called 'Bombay Talkies'

Firstly i would like to Thank the whole team of 'Bombay Talkies' for making this film-going experience a treat for cinema lovers. All the four directors came up with really good stories and i loved every bit of the film.

When the film starts with 'main chhakka nahi hoon , homosexual hoon' ..... it makes you sit up and take notice because you know something great is on its way. This is how Karan Johar's story starts and it explores the relationship turmoils of Rani and Randeep's relationship alongside the arrival of Saqeeb who is gay in a urban backdrop. Its wonderfully explored and touches you deep inside the heart. Rani Mukerji stands out in the whole film with her award winning performance of the role of a wife who works in a Cinema newspaper and even discusses sex with her co-worker Saqib Salim when he wants to know about it. The way she expresses that 'and we did it last night' or after she comes to know the truth the way she expresses her grudge while removing makeup .... every bit is so real and so true to life. Saqib Salim did a superb job as the boy next door - talkative - homosexual guy . Loved the chemistry of Randeep with his co-actors , he gels up with any actor so well. Special mention needs to be given of the dialogues and the old songs that has been used. This is Karan Johar's best work till date. I really want this story to come as a full feature film.

Next coming to Dibakar Banerjee's film , i really liked the simplicity in the film and the way Nawazuddin pulled off the character. The story of a man from the mass and how he loves acting and has an emu as a pet and how one day he gets chance to act in a film for a scene which goes with a snap of the finger. How he gets amazed  and then asks for dialogues and to make fun of him a crew member writes a word and puts it in his pocket and tells that this was his dialogue. He gets excited and practices. Then he feels sad seeing the dialogues but later with the inspiration of his 'abba' he works and atlast he does not even take the money , just runs home feeling very happy and shares it with his daughter and wife . The women playing Nawazuddin's wife was really good and looked so real and apt for this role. Dibakar comes out as a winner once again and i really liked the word 'DhakkaMan'

Coming to Zoya Akhtar's story , it was again a slice of life and it conveyed the concept much similar to that of Karan Johar but in a very different way and in the perspective of a child played by Naman Jain. The child does not like playing football and idolises an actress and wants to b e like her . Steals his sister's clothes and mother's costemics and dresses up one day when his father (played wonderfully by Ranveer Shorey) appears and slaps him hard . That day in his dream that actress comes and tells that at times you need to keep your dreams a secret. He does it and tells his father that he wants to be a pilot when he grows up and that makes his father very happy. The role of the mother and sister were also played very well but somehow felt this story could have been much more appealing. The story ends with the boy dancing to a song of the actress to help his sister get money for her school trip.

Last we come to Anurag Kashyap's story and it was yet another emotion evoking and strong story as expected from Anurag , so Anurag did not really surprise. I loved the story and the twist at the end. It tells the story of a man named Vijay who on the demand of his father goes to his father's favourite actor with a murabba so that he eats half and he brings back the other half and it would act as a medicine for the ailing old man. The man waits for so many days and when atlast Amitabh tastes the murabba the man comes back and while coming back he was telling the story of how he met him to the fellow passengers when an idiot passengers deliberately breaks the jar containing the murabba and the loss was so prominent on his face , looked so real. Vineet Kumar Singh in the role of Vijay is impressive. How he compensates for the broken jar and how he gets caught by his father and the film ends with happy note.

The overall music of the film is good but could have been much better seeing the standard of film it is. The title song with 20 top actors-actresses is a treat for the eyes and also has some scenes from several old films.
I can safely say that this is the best film in Hindi i have seen in recent times and deserves the awards of best film and best actress at least if not the best actor. May films like this be made more and more.
