The 'item number' bug!

Much of serious issues has been discussed in my blog in the recent posts, now lets come to something lighter! And what could be lighter to an Indian than music! We Indians have always been lovers of music, and we really have reasons to love it! We have lots of variations and each has its own magic too! We all know that item number bug has cut the mass audience very badly! Although i am not a big fan of these but the mass loves it!


Item songs are not any particular type of song but it has lots of energy! They do not have much to do in the film though! Although most of the times the words are meaningless, still it has the potential to excite nerves! Mostly beauties adorned in glamorous, loud and sexy costumes match their feet to these songs which makes the whole thing even more special! We have girls like Malaika, Rakhi and Mallika who are mostly famous for their item numbers!


Item songs have been part of Indian cinema from a time, long back! Helen, Zeenat Aman, Parvin Babi were known for their sexy looks in several cult item songs which are famous till today! Item numbers add spice to a  film and at times increases its appeal too! Till a few years back, item numbers were not a part of any such big films except some like kaali naagin(Rani-Aamir), mast moharam(Sushmita Sen), shava shava(Rani-Shahrukh-Amitabh), Kajraare(Amitabh-Aishwarya-Abhishek), Bidi jalaile(Bipasha Basu) became really famous! However with the coming of Munni Badnaam the item number fever is back! We also had Dhanno, Sheila, namak ishq ka, Shalu, dum maaro dum, dil ka aachar, laila, Razia, Jalebi bai recently! The fever is so strong that even if the films are not doing well, the item songs are doing very well! And if rumours are to be believed much more are yet to come!


Mallika is all set to take the stage by fire with razia, shalu, jalebi bai! But, Vidya Balan, who is mostly known for her soft, sweet, girl next door looks also did an item number recently, down south! If talks are to be believed, we will also have the ever vivacious queen - Rani Mukerji doing an item number in a film, and as we all know Rani is mostly famous for her girl next door type of looks and character so lets wait and watch how she would sizzle! raveena tandon is also doing a great item number in 'Bbuddah hoga tera baap'! It is really interesting to see how this item number scenario is shaping up! However item numbers have always been criticised for their gratuitous objectification of the female body!

Kazi Nazrul Islam's works have been acclaimed as well as criticized for egoism, but his admirers who supported him throughout his life, considered this as self-confidence more than ego.
